Pune Police have launched a dedicated mobile app and awareness campaign to combat drug abuse, encouraging citizens to report illegal activities and actively participate in building a safer, drug-free city.

April 30, 2026 | Pune In a major step towards tackling the growing menace of narcotics, the Pune Police has launched the “Drug-Free Pune” mobile application as part of a citywide anti-narcotics campaign. The initiative aims to empower citizens to report drug-related activities and enhance public participation in maintaining law and order. The campaign was formally rolled out during a public awareness programme held at Annabhau Sathe Hall in Bibwewadi, where over 700 citizens, along with senior police officials and civic representatives, were present. The initiative is being led under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, with active involvement from multiple departments and local civic bodies.
A key feature of the campaign is the newly launched mobile application, which allows citizens to report incidents related to the sale, consumption, transportation, and manufacturing of drugs. Authorities have assured that the information shared through the app will be acted upon promptly, encouraging greater public cooperation in curbing illegal activities
As part of the awareness drive, Pune Police also introduced a specially designed outreach vehicle equipped with visual content to educate people about the dangers of drug abuse. A campaign-themed selfie point was set up to increase engagement, particularly among the youth.

Officials highlighted that the increasing use of technology has made drug trafficking more complex, making citizen vigilance crucial. Speakers at the event stressed that combating drug abuse is a collective responsibility, urging parents and communities to remain alert and involved. The campaign also recognised the efforts of police personnel, with four officers being honoured for their bravery and service. Authorities reiterated that public participation will play a vital role in the success of the initiative, especially given the challenges posed by the city’s growing population.
The “Drug-Free Pune” initiative marks a significant push by law enforcement agencies to combine technology, awareness, and community engagement in the fight against narcotics.
