Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed Moscow’s strong strategic partnership with India, asserting that attempts by Western nations to pressure New Delhi into reducing ties with Russia are unlikely to succeed.
During an interaction with heads of leading global news agencies, including India’s PTI, Putin praised India’s rapid economic growth and described the country as one of the world’s leading economies under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said Russia views India as a “reliable partner” and remains committed to expanding bilateral cooperation across sectors.
Putin stated that India’s independent foreign policy and growing global influence have strengthened its position on the international stage. He added that New Delhi’s engagement with other global powers, including the United States, does not negatively impact India-Russia relations.
The Russian leader also said that external pressure on India regarding its ties with Moscow could prove counterproductive for international diplomacy and bilateral relations. His remarks come amid continued criticism from several Western countries over India’s purchase of Russian crude oil and defence cooperation with Moscow following the Ukraine conflict.
Highlighting the economic partnership between the two nations, Putin expressed confidence that bilateral trade between India and Russia could touch the USD 100 billion mark in the coming years. He noted that cooperation in areas such as energy, defence, trade, technology and connectivity continues to expand despite geopolitical tensions.

Responding to questions on global conflicts, Putin reiterated that Russia remains open to dialogue over the Ukraine crisis, while accusing Western countries of escalating tensions by continuing military support to Kyiv. He also emphasised that Russia supports efforts aimed at reducing tensions in West Asia and maintaining global stability.
The remarks from the Russian President come ahead of his proposed visit to India later this year, a move expected to further deepen strategic and economic engagement between the two countries amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics.
