The Poona Merchants Chamber organised an awareness programme for traders and business professionals to explain the latest amendments to the Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) provisions under the Income Tax Act, 2025. The session was held at the Chamber’s auditorium in Market Yard as part of the Income Tax Department’s ‘Prarambh 2026’ public outreach initiative.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-I and the Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), with senior tax officials and experts providing detailed insights into the revised provisions and compliance requirements.

Addressing the gathering, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Piyush Kumar Singh Yadav said the recent reforms are aimed at making the tax system more transparent, taxpayer-friendly and efficient. He noted that the introduction of revised income tax return forms and updated TDS provisions is expected to simplify the filing process and encourage voluntary tax compliance among taxpayers.

Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax Abhinav Rathi and Income Tax Officer Krishnakant Mishra conducted detailed presentations on the revised income tax return forms, changes in TDS regulations and the overall tax filing process. They also interacted with participants, addressed queries from traders and tax professionals, and assured them of continued assistance from the Income Tax Department in ensuring smooth implementation of the new provisions.

The awareness programme witnessed participation from a wide cross-section of the business community, including chartered accountants, tax consultants, income tax practitioners, representatives of various trade associations and members of the Poona Merchants Chamber.

National Vice-President of Grahak Panchayat Suryakant Pathak was also present on the occasion, along with former presidents, executive committee members and office-bearers of the Chamber. The event commenced with a welcome address by Chamber Secretary Ishwar Nahar, followed by introductory remarks from President Rajendra Bathia. Joint Secretary Ashish Nahar proposed the vote of thanks, while Uttam Bathia compered the programme.

The initiative forms part of the Income Tax Department’s efforts to improve taxpayer awareness and ensure that businesses are well-informed about the latest regulatory changes before the upcoming compliance cycle.
