PCMC Removes Illegal Billboard in Tathawade, Warns Against Unauthorised Hoardings

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) intensified its crackdown on illegal outdoor advertisements by demolishing an unauthorised billboard near Marigold Hospital in Tathawade on Tuesday. The civic action was part of the corporation’s ongoing enforcement drive against unauthorised hoardings erected without official permission.

According to PCMC officials, the billboard measured approximately 40 by 30 feet and had allegedly been installed by M/s Advik Advertising without obtaining the mandatory approval from the civic administration. Following verification, the corporation initiated demolition proceedings and removed both the advertising display and its iron support structure.

The operation was conducted by the Sky Sign and Licence Department under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Agale. Civic officials said the action forms part of a wider campaign to ensure compliance with advertising regulations and to prevent the unauthorised use of public and private spaces for commercial displays.

PCMC has been stepping up inspections across its jurisdiction to identify hoardings that violate municipal rules. Officials stated that unauthorised billboards not only breach legal provisions but may also pose safety risks, particularly during the monsoon season when strong winds and heavy rainfall can weaken improperly installed structures.

The civic body reiterated that advertisers and property owners must obtain prior permission before installing any hoarding, even on privately owned land. Such approvals are mandatory under the provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation (Advertisement Regulation and Control) Rules, 2022.

Authorities warned that strict action, including demolition and legal proceedings, will continue against individuals and agencies found violating the prescribed norms. PCMC has also appealed to advertisers to ensure all installations comply with the applicable regulations to avoid penalties and enforcement action.

The corporation said similar inspection and removal drives will continue across Pimpri Chinchwad as part of its efforts to regulate outdoor advertising and maintain public safety.
