A low-budget artificial intelligence-generated short film created by a former train driver in China has turned into an international sensation after earning its creator praise from a Hollywood filmmaker and a potential job opportunity in the United States.
According to reports, 29-year-old Liu Ziyu from China’s Yunnan province created a three-and-a-half-minute AI-generated short film titled “Zombie Scavenger” using publicly available AI tools within just 10 days. The project reportedly cost around 3,000 yuan, nearly ₹42,000, despite having no major studio backing or formal filmmaking education.
The short film soon gained traction online after Hollywood-based AI filmmaker PJ Accetturo shared and praised the project on social media, reportedly calling it one of the most impressive AI-generated films he had seen in recent years. The filmmaker later expressed interest in offering Liu an opportunity to work in Hollywood, dramatically changing the creator’s life within days of the film going viral.
What makes the story particularly remarkable is that Liu previously worked as a train driver and had no professional background in cinema or animation. Reports suggest he taught himself AI filmmaking tools independently before experimenting with short-form storytelling using generative AI platforms.
