Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended warm greetings to citizens on the occasion of Bakrid, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, highlighting the importance of brotherhood, harmony and collective happiness in society. In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister wished people prosperity, success and good health during one of Islam’s most significant festivals.

“Eid ul-Adha greetings! May this occasion deepen the spirit of brotherhood and happiness in our society. Praying for everyone’s success and good health,” PM Modi said in his message to the nation.

Bakrid was celebrated with prayers and religious gatherings across several parts of India on Thursday, with thousands of devotees visiting mosques and Eidgahs early in the morning. Families and communities exchanged greetings and participated in charitable activities, reflecting the festival’s core values of sacrifice, compassion and generosity.

Authorities in multiple cities reportedly implemented special security and traffic arrangements to ensure peaceful celebrations during the festival. In many regions, volunteers and community groups also organised food distribution drives and support initiatives for underprivileged families as part of the Eid celebrations.

Eid-ul-Adha commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and holds immense religious significance for Muslims around the world. The festival symbolises faith, obedience, charity and communal harmony, with celebrations traditionally including prayers, festive meals and social outreach activities.

The Prime Minister’s message comes amid widespread celebrations across the country, with political leaders, celebrities and public figures also extending wishes to citizens on the occasion of Bakrid.
