Habitual Offender Held in Pune, Police Recover Stolen Mobile Phones Worth ₹1.3 Lakh

Bharati Vidyapeeth Police arrested a repeat offender in a robbery case and recovered four stolen mobile phones worth ₹1.3 lakh, marking a significant breakthrough in an ongoing investigation.

The Bharati Vidyapeeth Police have arrested a habitual offender in connection with a robbery case and recovered four stolen mobile phones collectively valued at ₹1.3 lakh, providing a major breakthrough in an investigation into a violent theft reported earlier this year.

According to police, the incident took place on the night of May 24 when the victim was walking near Maulinagar Bus Stop on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road. Three unidentified men allegedly intercepted him, assaulted him with an iron rod and forcibly snatched his mobile phone before fleeing the spot. Based on the victim’s complaint, Bharati Vidyapeeth Police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

A special investigation team led by Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Mokashi, under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Mansing Patil, analysed technical evidence and gathered intelligence through informants. During the probe, investigators identified the suspected involvement of three known offenders with previous criminal records.

Acting on specific information, police tracked down and arrested Rahul Sitaram Nikam, 28, from the Wonder City Road area. During the operation, officers recovered four stolen smartphones, including Samsung, Vivo and Oppo handsets, with an estimated combined value of ₹1.30 lakh. Police believe the recovery will assist in solving additional theft and robbery cases under investigation.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Bharati Vidyapeeth Division. The investigation involved the coordinated efforts of the crime branch and local police personnel, who used technical surveillance and field intelligence to locate the accused.

Police said efforts are continuing to trace the remaining suspects linked to the robbery and determine whether they were involved in other similar offences in Pune. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against repeat offenders and strengthening measures to curb street crime across the city.
