Monsoon Havoc in Maharashtra:
Torrential rain battered Maharashtra, killing at least eight people, triggering landslides, flooding key transport corridors and disrupting road, rail and air services, while authorities urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel amid continued red alert warnings.

July 7, 2026 | Mumbai : Maharashtra witnessed widespread devastation on Monday as relentless monsoon showers claimed at least eight lives and severely disrupted transportation across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Konkan and parts of western Maharashtra. Flooding, landslides and infrastructure damage affected highways, railway routes and air travel, prompting emergency response measures across several districts.
Among the fatalities reported during the past 24 hours were three people from Pune and two each from Raigad and Panvel, while one death was reported from Ratnagiri district. Rescue teams are continuing search operations for three youths who were swept away by floodwaters in Pune, while four people remain missing in Raigad.
One of the most significant disruptions occurred on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway after a portion of the slope near the entry point of the Missing Link tunnel collapsed following heavy rainfall. The incident forced authorities to shut the expressway for nearly ten hours, resulting in traffic congestion stretching up to 25 kilometres. Waterlogging near the Patalganga River further worsened the situation before limited traffic movement was gradually restored.
Rail services between Mumbai and Pune also suffered major disruptions after landslides were reported between Karjat and Monkey Hill. At least 16 express trains were cancelled, while several others were diverted or delayed, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. Flight operations were also affected due to adverse weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department has issued Red and Orange alerts for several parts of Maharashtra, warning of continued extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appealed to citizens to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, stating that emergency agencies have been placed on high alert to handle any further weather-related incidents.
Authorities continue to monitor river levels, unstable hill slopes and flood-prone areas as rescue and relief operations remain underway across the affected regions.
