Monthly LPG Cylinder Limit Introduced Amid Global Supply Concerns
Following government advisories amid the West Asia conflict, LPG distributors have restricted customers to one cylinder per month by extending the booking gap, triggering confusion among households and businesses.
Mumbai | March 10 2026: LPG distributors across parts of the country have begun implementing a restriction that effectively limits consumers to one cooking gas cylinder per month after advisories issued by the Government of India in view of the ongoing conflict in West Asia and possible supply disruptions. Under the revised system, the earlier 15-day interval for booking a refill has been extended to 25 days.

This means customers can now place a new booking only after 25 days from the previous refill order. Considering that delivery usually takes two to four additional days, households will practically receive only one LPG cylinder per month. The change applies to both domestic and commercial LPG users and was implemented by gas distribution agencies following instructions issued through the country’s LPG supply network overseen by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Earlier, consumers with two cylinders at home could book the second refill after 15 days of using the first cylinder. The sudden extension of the booking period has therefore caused confusion among several customers, especially because the change was introduced without prior public notice. The restriction comes close on the heels of a recent price hike in LPG cylinders, which saw rates increase by around ₹60 last week. Many consumers have expressed concern that the reduced booking frequency could make household cooking fuel management more difficult. Meanwhile, in Pune, the district administration has said it is closely monitoring the LPG supply chain after receiving complaints from residents about delayed deliveries at several gas agencies. Officials stated that necessary steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted supply and prevent shortages.

Authorities have indicated that the measure is precautionary and may remain in place depending on global energy supply conditions and domestic availability of LPG
