Pimpri Chinchwad Police have launched a special enforcement campaign against vehicles displaying illegal fancy number plates, removing non-standard plates on the spot to ensure compliance with RTO rules.

Pimpri Chinchwad | March 10 2026: Authorities in Pimpri Chinchwad have initiated a strict enforcement drive targeting vehicles using illegal fancy number plates that violate official registration norms. The campaign, led by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police, aims to ensure that all vehicles on city roads follow the standard format prescribed by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). As part of the operation, traffic police teams have been deployed across major junctions and busy roads in the city to inspect vehicle registration plates. Officials are stopping vehicles and checking whether their number plates conform to the approved design and font specified under national transport regulations.

Vehicles found displaying stylised or decorative number plates that make registration numbers difficult to read are facing immediate action. In several cases, authorities have removed such plates on the spot and warned vehicle owners to install standard High Security Registration Plates. Police officials said that fancy number plates often use artistic fonts, colours, or symbols that obscure the vehicle number, creating challenges for law enforcement. Such modifications can hinder surveillance systems, including traffic cameras and automated number plate recognition technologies used to monitor violations and track vehicles involved in crimes.
