Pune RTO Tightens Driving Licence Rules, Issues Tax Deadline Warning for BH Series Vehicles
Pune RTO has made an Age, Nationality and Domicile Certificate mandatory for licence and permit applicants, while also warning BH Series vehicle owners to clear pending motor vehicle tax on time or face daily penalties.

The Regional Transport Office in Pune has rolled out two significant regulatory updates, one concerning driving licence applications and the other targeting owners of Bharat (BH) Series registered vehicles. The Transport Department announced that all applicants seeking a driving licence, along with those applying for permits related to public service vehicles, will now be required to furnish a government-issued Age, Nationality and Domicile Certificate alongside their standard documentation.
Officials clarified that this certificate must be obtained from the competent authority designated by the Maharashtra government. The move, according to department sources, is aimed at reinforcing document verification processes and ensuring consistent compliance with state transport regulations. Authorities cautioned that any application lacking this certificate risks being held up or turned down altogether, urging citizens to double-check their paperwork before submission to avoid unnecessary delays.
Separately, the Pune RTO issued an advisory to owners of BH Series vehicles, reminding them to pay outstanding motor vehicle tax promptly. The BH Series scheme, rolled out by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in August 2021, was designed to ease inter-state vehicle transfers for individuals with transferable jobs. Under this system, tax is initially collected for a two-year block at registration, after which owners must renew and pay again within a set deadline.
The RTO warned that failure to clear dues within seven days of the deadline will attract a penalty of ₹100 per day until the amount is settled. Officials urged vehicle owners to act promptly to sidestep this mounting financial burden.
Taken together, both directives reflect the transport department’s push toward tighter compliance and smoother administrative processing across Pune. Citizens and vehicle owners have been advised to stay updated on documentation and payment timelines to avoid last-minute complications.
