Concerns emerge over the quality of the newly opened Pune University Chowk flyover as a BJP corporator demands investigation and action.

Pune, 10 March, 2026: Concerns have surfaced over the construction quality of the newly opened flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, one of the city’s busiest traffic junctions. A BJP corporator has raised the issue and demanded that authorities conduct a detailed inspection of the structure to ensure that it meets required safety and engineering standards. The flyover, which was recently opened to improve traffic flow in the area, is a key part of Pune’s ongoing efforts to ease congestion on major roads.

According to the corporator, certain visible construction irregularities have raised questions about the finishing and durability of the flyover. He has urged the concerned departments to immediately examine the structure and verify whether the construction work has been carried out according to approved technical specifications. The corporator has also called for action against contractors if any deficiencies are found during the inspection.

The flyover at University Chowk is considered an important infrastructure development because the junction connects several major areas of Pune, including Baner, Aundh, Pashan and Shivajinagar. The intersection has long been known for heavy traffic congestion, particularly during peak office hours, and the new flyover was expected to significantly improve vehicle movement along the busy Ganeshkhind Road corridor.

The structure is also part of a unique double-decker transport corridor in the city, where road traffic uses the lower level while a metro line runs above it. This integrated infrastructure project was designed to support both road transport and public transit while reducing pressure on the existing road network.

Following the concerns raised by the corporator, authorities are expected to review the matter and carry out necessary inspections.
