A welcome drop in maximum temperatures(weather) and light to moderate rainfall over the weekend will bring much-needed relief to parts of coastal Maharashtra

May 29, 2026 | Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant shift in weather patterns across Maharashtra, predicting a 2 to 3-degree Celsius drop in maximum temperatures over the next forty-eight hours. While districts including Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar have experienced fluctuating mercury levels alongside persistent, oppressive humidity, the weather is expected to remain largely dry until Saturday evening.

A substantial reprieve from the sweltering conditions is anticipated on Sunday and Monday, with the weather bureau projecting light to moderate showers across Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar. This impending precipitation is expected to break the ongoing spell of severe discomfort caused by hot northerly winds, which have recently intensified heat levels across the broader Konkan division. Even though registered temperatures fluctuated between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius, high humidity pushed the real-feel index significantly higher.

Reflecting the peak of this heatwave-like phase, the Colaba observatory registered a maximum of 35.2 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz recorded 34.9 degrees Celsius. Elevated nocturnal temperatures of 28.3 degrees Celsius in Colaba and 29.2 degrees Celsius in Santacruz have also kept nighttime conditions highly uncomfortable for urban residents.

Meteorological experts state that the transition toward localized pre-monsoon showers will gradually lower both day and night temperatures early next week.
