Elderly Pune Woman with Dementia Missing from Railway Station — Family’s Emotional Plea for Public Help
An 86-year-old Pune woman with dementia went missing from Pune Railway Station on October 23. Family urges citizens to help trace her across Maharashtra.
Pune, October 28, 2025: An 86-year-old woman from Pune, identified as Ujwala (Vasanti) Phadke, has been missing since Thursday, October 23, 2025. The elderly woman, who suffers from dementia, was last seen at Pune Railway Station around 11 a.m. Her sudden disappearance has left the family distraught and has triggered a large-scale search operation, with relatives appealing to the public across Maharashtra and neighbouring states to help trace her.
According to the family, Ujwala was captured on CCTV near platforms 2 and 3 of Pune Railway Station before she went missing. However, it remains unclear which train she may have boarded. Due to her cognitive condition, she might have travelled unknowingly to another city without being able to recall her identity or destination. Her nephew, Dr. Rahul Joshi, shared that she could have taken a train toward Mumbai, Gujarat via Vasai, Kolhapur, Solapur, or even Miraj. The family believes that every possible lead, however small, could be crucial in locating her safely.
A missing person complaint has been filed at the Chatushringi Police Station. The case has now been taken up jointly by Pune Police, Railway Police, and other law enforcement agencies across Maharashtra. Multiple police units, along with volunteers and social media users, have been circulating her photo and details to increase public awareness. The family has expressed deep gratitude to the officers and citizens who have already stepped forward with information or assistance.
The family’s main concern is that Ujwala’s dementia may have caused severe disorientation, making it difficult for her to find her way home. Experts say elderly individuals with dementia are at high risk when they wander alone, as they often forget familiar routes and may not remember their own names or addresses. Public cooperation therefore becomes vital in such cases — especially when the individual may have boarded a long-distance train.
Family members have urged citizens to be alert, particularly at railway stations, bus depots, temples, or public places in Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Solapur, Miraj, and Vasai. They have requested anyone spotting a woman matching her description to immediately contact the police or the family. The search is being actively supported by volunteers who are sharing her details on WhatsApp, Facebook, and local community groups to reach as many people as possible.
