Pune Police Destroy Narcotics Worth ₹1.75 Crore in Major Anti-Narcotics Operation
Pune Police’s Crime Branch destroyed seized narcotics valued at ₹1.75 crore from 32 NDPS cases, marking a major step in the city’s campaign against drug trafficking.
Pune, October 31, 2025: In a significant blow to the city’s drug trade, Pune Police have destroyed narcotics worth ₹1.75 crore as part of a major anti-narcotics operation. The seized drugs, collected from 32 registered cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, were incinerated in an industrial furnace at Ranjangaon under strict supervision by law enforcement and regulatory authorities. This large-scale destruction marks one of the most comprehensive disposal actions taken by Pune Police in recent years against narcotic substances circulating in the city and its outskirts.
The seized drugs included ganja (marijuana), mephedrone (MD), cocaine, heroin, MDMA, methamphetamine, charas, opium plants, and banned chemical substances such as edulis fertilizers and “banta” tablets. The materials had been confiscated from multiple police stations across the city including Khadak, Faraskhana, Deccan, Kothrud, and Lonikand. Each of these cases represented months of surveillance, raids, and arrests targeting local dealers and their supply chains.
Before the disposal, all seized substances were thoroughly documented, weighed, and verified by the Seized Property Destruction Committee headed by the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime). The process was carried out in the presence of officers from the state excise department, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, and the regional forensic science laboratory to ensure complete transparency and environmental compliance. Incineration was done under controlled conditions, preventing any possibility of the drugs re-entering illegal circulation or causing environmental damage.
Officials stated that this action reflects the police department’s ongoing mission to dismantle the city’s narcotics network and prevent any misuse of confiscated material. Over the past few years, Pune has witnessed a sharp rise in the consumption of synthetic drugs such as mephedrone and MDMA, particularly among younger populations. Police have responded with intensified raids, community awareness campaigns, and collaborations with other state and central agencies to track the supply routes and curb peddling networks operating across Maharashtra.
The destruction of such a large quantity of narcotics is also seen as a preventive measure against potential corruption and pilferage from storage facilities. By ensuring that seized drugs are properly disposed of, the Pune Police aim to maintain integrity in their anti-drug operations and uphold public trust in law enforcement. Authorities believe that consistent disposal actions, coupled with strict monitoring, will act as a strong deterrent for traffickers and criminal networks attempting to revive their illegal trade in the region.
While this operation represents a major milestone, officials acknowledge that the war against drugs is far from over. Challenges remain in tracing the sources of synthetic drugs, identifying inter-state supplier chains, and providing effective rehabilitation for those affected by addiction. The police plan to continue their crackdown with more undercover operations and technological surveillance to dismantle organized drug networks operating within Pune and beyond.
The operation has sent a clear message that Pune’s law enforcement agencies are determined to eliminate the narcotics menace from its roots. The success of this effort not only safeguards the youth but also reinforces the city’s commitment to creating a safer, drug-free environment.
