A 35-year-old man lost his life when his motorcycle collided with a parked 18-wheeler on the Pune-Nagar highway near Wagholi; truck lacked required parking lights and safety triangle.

Pune | November18,2025: In a tragic road accident early on Saturday morning on the Pune-Nagar Highway near Wagholi, a 35-year-old two-wheeler rider died after colliding with a stationary 18-wheeler truck that was parked without parking lights or a safety triangle.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 am near the Perfect Weighing Bridge at Katkewadi. The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Chhotan Mishra, a resident of Vadgaon Sheri. He was riding his motorcycle from Lonikand towards Wagholi when he encountered the truck loaded with iron and steel material parked on the side of the road. The truck driver allegedly failed to display parking lights or place a safety triangle, leading to the collision.

According to the police, the victim sustained severe head injuries in the crash. He was rushed to the Sassoon Hospital in Pune for treatment, but doctors declared him dead during treatment. The truck was parked at a spot without proper hazard indicators, a violation of traffic safety rules, which contributed to the fatal outcome. A case has been registered at the Wagholi Police Station under sections related to negligent parking and careless riding. The truck driver, Ramu Ramkishor Verma from Uttar Pradesh, is among those named in the FIR; the biker has also been booked for careless riding.

This incident brings into sharp focus the persistent risks on highways when heavy vehicles are inadequately marked or parked haphazardly during nighttime hours. Experts warn that lack of illumination, absence of warning triangles and high speed on such stretches dramatically increase the chances of catastrophic accidents. The case in Wagholi again underscores the need for stricter enforcement of truck parking regulations, especially after hours, and better road-lighting and signage for riders traveling at night.
