Grand Celebration of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj’s Jayanti at Sinhagad Fort

Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj’s Jayanti was celebrated with grandeur at Sinhagad Fort, featuring a palanquin procession, devotional rituals, musical performances, and history-inspired lectures promoting the spirit of Swarajya.

Sinhagad Fort,06 March 2026 | Sinhagad Fort came alive with historic fervor as devotees, historians, and cultural enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the Jayanti of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, the third Chhatrapati of Swarajya. Organized by the Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj Jayanti Committee, Hindu Yuva Prabodhini, and the Sinhagad Pavitrya Mission, this year marked the first time that the festival was held at Sinhagad Fort according to the Maharaj’s exact birth anniversary. The event aimed to rekindle the legacy of the Maratha ruler and inspire the spirit of self-rule, courage, and devotion among participants.

The festivities commenced at the Maharaj’s samadhi with the ceremonial abhishek performed by the Dhamdhere family members, including Balasaheb Dhamdhere, Deepak Dhamdhere, Vilas Dhamdhere, and Anil Dhamdhere. The ritual was accompanied by traditional chants and hymns, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. Following this, the idol of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj was placed in a beautifully decorated palanquin and taken in a grand procession across the fort. The rhythmic beats of the tal and mridang, combined with the chants of “Jai Chhatrapati!” resonated across the historic walls of Sinhagad, invoking the legacy of Maratha valor and devotion.

The palanquin procession made its way to Shri Kondhaneshwar Temple, where the idol was received with reverence. A formal abhishek and aarti were conducted, with devotees participating enthusiastically. Prominent figures such as Yogesh Jagdale, Prasad Chavre,Vishwas Kalmkar, Rahul Chavan, forest officer Baliram Vaikar, Sunil Limbore, Sunil Jagde, Dutta Jorkar, and Nitin Gole were present, ensuring the event reflected both devotion and cultural pride. Actor Pratik Mohite and historians Ashok Sarpate and Prathamesh Khamkar provided insights into Maharaj Rajaram’s life, emphasizing his resilience, leadership during turbulent times, and his efforts to sustain the Swarajya established by his father, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

During the event, devotees also paid homage to Narveer Subhedar Tanaji Malusare by offering floral tributes at his samadhi, highlighting the interconnected legacy of Maratha warriors who contributed to the protection and expansion of Swarajya. Devotional songs dedicated to Lord Shambhu Mahadev filled the air, further enriching the spiritual ambiance. The celebrations were marked not only by rituals but also by lectures and discussions reflecting on the historical significance of Rajaram Maharaj’s reign. Historians and speakers elaborated on his strategic acumen during the period of Mughal aggression, his commitment to preserving the Maratha state, and the cultural renaissance he inspired. The event successfully bridged devotion with historical education, offering a holistic perspective on Maratha heritage.

The grand procession concluded at Shri Amruteshwar Temple, where the idol was ceremoniously installed, and the final aarti was performed by Vidya Bendre, Sonali Sarpate, Priyanka Mohite, Manisha Kalmakar, and Sarika Warule. The temple premises reverberated with chants and hymns as devotees reflected on the lessons of courage, sacrifice, and leadership from Rajaram Maharaj’s life.

This first-of-its-kind celebration at Sinhagad Fort drew widespread participation from devotees, local residents, historians, and cultural enthusiasts, highlighting the enduring reverence for Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj. Organizers emphasized that such celebrations not only honor historical figures but also instill a sense of pride, unity, and cultural awareness in the younger generation. By combining devotional rituals, palanquin processions, music, and lectures, the event served as a reminder of the values of Swarajya, resilience, and devotion that defined the Maratha legacy.

As the sun set over Sinhagad Fort, the echoes of tal-mridang, hymns, and chants lingered in the air, symbolizing the continued inspiration drawn from Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj’s life.
