Srinagar | March 17, 2026: The iconic Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has officially opened its gates to visitors, ushering in the much-awaited tulip bloom season and marking the beginning of spring tourism in KashmirLocated at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range and overlooking Dal Lake, the garden is recognised as Asia’s largest tulip garden. With millions of tulips beginning to bloom, the area has been transformed into a colourful landscape, attracting tourists from across India and abroad.

The garden was opened on March 16 as part of the annual Tulip Festival, a key event in Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism calendar. Officials said the blooming of tulips not only enhances the scenic beauty of the region but also plays a crucial role in boosting tourism and the local economy.
Spread across a vast area, the garden features over 70 varieties of tulips and more than a million flowers in different colours and patterns. The bloom season typically lasts for about a month, with peak flowering expected in early April, depending on weather conditions.

Authorities have made extensive preparations to welcome visitors, including improved facilities, decorative installations and designated viewing areas. The annual opening of the garden is seen as a symbolic transition from winter to spring in Kashmir, drawing nature lovers, photographers and tourists eager to witness the vibrant floral display.

In previous years, the tulip garden has recorded massive footfall, with lakhs of visitors thronging the site during the blooming period. Officials expect a similar or even higher turnout this year, given the favourable weather conditions and increasing interest in domestic travel.
Tourism stakeholders believe that the tulip season will provide a strong boost to the hospitality sector, including hotels, transport services and local businesses, as visitor numbers are expected to rise steadily over the coming weeks.
With the bloom season now underway, the tulip garden once again stands as one of the most prominent attractions in Kashmir, offering a spectacular visual experience and reinforcing the region’s position as a premier spring destination..
