Unseasonal showers intensify across Maharashtra, with the weather department issuing orange alerts for multiple districts and warning of thunderstorms and strong winds until April 3.

Pune | 31 March, 2026: Unseasonal rainfall activity has intensified across Maharashtra, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue warnings of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across large parts of the state.According to the latest forecast, several districts are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday, with an orange alert issued for at least 13 districts. These include Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Dharashiv, where intense weather conditions are likely.

The department has also placed the remaining districts under a yellow alert, indicating moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Coastal and hilly regions such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and parts of the Western Ghats are also expected to experience intermittent showers and strong winds.

Weather officials stated that the current spell of rainfall is expected to continue until April 3, driven by changing atmospheric conditions and moisture incursion. The combination of rising temperatures and instability in the atmosphere has led to the development of convective weather systems, resulting in widespread pre-monsoon-like showers.

In Pune district, both city areas and ghat sections are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and in regions vulnerable to lightning strikes.

Farmers across the state have been urged to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops, as unseasonal rain and gusty winds could lead to agricultural losses. Experts noted that such weather patterns during this period can impact harvesting cycles and crop quality.

Emergency services and local administrations have been put on alert to respond to any adverse situations, including tree falls, power disruptions, and traffic congestion caused by heavy rainfall.

The weather department continues to monitor the situation closely and has advised citizens to follow official updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
