Forced Conversion and Decade-Long Sexual Assault: Jalna Shaken by Horrific Crime

A Jalna man and his family face charges for a ten-year campaign of blackmail, repeated sexual assault, and coercing a young woman to abandon her faith through threats and physical violence.

Jalna | 08 May 2026: In a chilling case that has distressed the Jalna district, local authorities have booked a man and three members of his family for the prolonged sexual exploitation and attempted forced religious conversion of a woman. The ordeal allegedly began in February 2016, when the victim was a minor in the ninth grade.

According to the police report, the primary accused, 37-year-old Sheikh Imran Sheikh Habib, surreptitiously captured compromising photographs of the victim while she was bathing at her home. Using these images as leverage, Imran blackmailed her for a decade. Despite her family moving to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in 2017 to escape the harassment, the accused tracked her down and allegedly committed rape in 2018 by threatening to leak the visuals.

The investigation further revealed a systemic effort by Imran’s family including his parents and brother to force the victim into converting to Islam. The victim alleged she was coerced into wearing a burqa, performing Namaz, and reading religious texts under duress. The accused’s family reportedly denigrated her original faith and lured her with promises of employment in Saudi Arabia.

The abuse culminated in March 2026, when Imran allegedly broke into the victim’s residence, physically assaulted her, and issued death threats. Exhausted by years of mental and physical trauma, the woman approached the Pardh Police Station. Charges have been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and various sections related to forced conversion and criminal intimidation.
