Pune;Kothrud Residents Fume Over Persistent Power Outages as Summer Heat Peaks

Escalating frustration has gripped Western Pune as frequent and unannounced power cuts leave citizens in Kothrud and Paud Road struggling against severe heat and disrupted work-from-home schedules.

Pune| May 13, 2026: Discontent is brewing against MSEDCL as residents of Kothrud and Paud Road face an unrelenting wave of power outages. Despite the soaring summer temperatures making life indoors nearly unbearable, major pockets of the Kothrud assembly constituency, including Rambaug Colony, Jai Bhawani Nagar, Gujarat Colony, and Bhusari Colony, have reported consistent electrical failures.

The “hide-and-seek” of electricity has become a daily ordeal for locals. While MSEDCL typically schedules maintenance on Thursdays, residents allege that the supply is unstable throughout the week. The situation has triggered a backlash from consumers who point out the irony in the utility’s efficiency. “MSEDCL is incredibly swift in disconnecting lines if a bill is slightly delayed, but where is that same promptness when it comes to providing reliable service?” questioned a frustrated resident.

The impact has extended beyond domestic discomfort. With many professionals still relying on stable internet for remote work, the frequent blackouts have crippled productivity. Pritam Mehta, a local resident, noted that the outages frequently knock out internet routers, making professional tasks impossible. The surge in demand due to the heavy use of air conditioners and coolers is suspected to be straining the aging local infrastructure.

Former corporator Harshvardhan Mankar has intervened, stating that formal instructions have been issued to MSEDCL officials to rectify the technical glitches immediately. However, with the heatwave expected to persist, residents are demanding a permanent upgrade to the distribution network rather than temporary fixes. As the public outcry intensifies, the pressure is on the state utility to ensure that Pune’s residential heartland does not spend the rest of the summer in the dark.
