Following previous disruptions to Alphonso shipments, the export collapse has caused ‘Kesar’ market prices to crash by fifty percent, plunging regional orchard owners into deep economic losses during peak harvest season.

Compounding the crisis, local cultivators faced erratic weather patterns and unseasonal rainfall earlier this year, which triggered heavy blossom drops across regional orchards. Despite these adverse agricultural conditions, total crop yield managed to remain on par with last year’s output. However, the absence of major merchant buyers from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh who typically facilitate massive shipments to European and Gulf nations has left vast quantities of fruit stranded in local markets.

The direct fallout of the Middle East conflict has severed these vital export supply chains, forcing prominent growers to liquidate their entire harvest within localized markets. In previous years, high-quality ‘Kesar’ commanded stable wholesale rates between ₹70 and ₹80 per kilogram. With global channels closed, a massive domestic supply glut has forced current farm-gate prices down to a meager ₹30 to ₹40 per kilogram.

Market analysts and affected orchard owners confirm that this abrupt pricing collapse represents a fifty percent decline in seasonal agricultural revenue. With operating overheads remaining fixed, local farmers are calling for immediate state intervention and alternative logistics support to prevent a total economic collapse of the region’s lucrative fruit cultivation sector.
