India’s position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings suffered a setback after Bangladesh completed a historic 2-0 Test series whitewash against Pakistan, climbing above India to fifth place in the latest rankings. The dramatic shift in the table followed Bangladesh’s commanding 78-run victory in the second Test at Sylhet, sealing one of the biggest achievements in the nation’s red-ball cricket history.

Bangladesh had earlier won the opening Test in Mirpur by 104 runs and carried that momentum into the second match with disciplined performances in both batting and bowling departments. The series victory lifted Bangladesh to 58.33 percentage points in the WTC standings, while India slipped to sixth with 48.15 percentage points despite having more overall points in the cycle. The WTC rankings are determined by percentage points rather than total points accumulated.

The latest rankings have sparked discussions around India’s inconsistent performances in the ongoing WTC cycle. India, which reached the finals of the first two editions of the World Test Championship, has struggled to maintain momentum after suffering a 0-2 home Test series defeat against South Africa and enduring difficult conditions during the England tour, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Shubman Gill-led Indian side has not played a Test match so far in 2026. Although India is scheduled to face Afghanistan in a one-off Test next month, that fixture will not count towards the WTC standings. India’s next crucial WTC fixtures include away Test tours to Sri Lanka and New Zealand later this year before hosting Australia in a major home series in 2027.

Meanwhile, Australia continue to dominate the WTC table with an impressive 87.50 percentage points, followed by New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka in the top four positions. Pakistan remain near the bottom after managing only one win in four Tests this cycle.
