Iran, UAE Exchange Sharp Accusations During BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi

Iran And Uae Clash
Tensions flared at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting after Iran accused the UAE of involvement in military operations against Tehran, exposing deep divisions within the expanded BRICS alliance.

New Delhi | May 15, 2026 A major diplomatic confrontation unfolded during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi as Iran and the United Arab Emirates exchanged sharp accusations over the ongoing conflict in West Asia, raising concerns about internal divisions within the expanded BRICS bloc.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi publicly accused the UAE of being directly involved in military operations against Iran during the ongoing regional conflict. Speaking at the meeting, Araghchi reportedly claimed that Abu Dhabi had failed to condemn attacks on Iran and had aligned itself with Israeli and American strategic interests in the region.
The UAE strongly rejected the allegations and denied claims related to any covert coordination with Israel during the conflict. The diplomatic clash reportedly created tensions within the BRICS discussions and complicated efforts to build consensus on a joint statement regarding the West Asia crisis.
The meeting, hosted by India in New Delhi, comes at a sensitive time as the BRICS alliance faces growing geopolitical challenges following its recent expansion. Iran and the UAE both joined the grouping as part of BRICS’ broader push to increase its global influence beyond its original members — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The Iran war has increasingly exposed divisions within the bloc, particularly because some Gulf nations maintain close security ties with the United States while Iran remains openly critical of Western influence in the region. Analysts say the latest confrontation demonstrates the difficulty BRICS faces in maintaining a unified diplomatic position on complex international conflicts.

During his remarks, Araghchi also criticised the United States, accusing Washington of destabilising the region through military alliances and interventionist policies. He urged BRICS nations to condemn what he described as “unlawful aggression” against Iran.
India, which is hosting the two-day summit, has attempted to maintain a balanced diplomatic stance amid rising tensions in West Asia. External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar called for stability, safe maritime trade routes and greater global cooperation during the opening session of the meeting.
Observers believe the outcome of the New Delhi meeting could significantly influence preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit scheduled later this year, especially as the organisation seeks to present itself as a powerful alternative platform in global diplomacy.
