Sewage Waterlogging at Sayyad Nagar Mosque Disrupts Daily Namaz

Rainwater mixed with overflowing sewage has inundated a mosque in Pune’s Sayyad Nagar for five days, disrupting daily prayers, raising health concerns, and prompting residents and local representatives to demand urgent action from the Pune Municipal Corporation.

Pune | July 10, 2026: The porch of a mosque in Sayyad Nagar, falling under Ward 41 of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has remained submerged in rainwater mixed with sewage for the past five days, creating severe inconvenience for worshippers and raising concerns over public health and sanitation.

According to local residents, continuous rainfall over the past several days caused drainage lines in the area to overflow, resulting in sewage-laden water accumulating inside the mosque premises. The stagnant water has made it difficult for devotees to access the mosque and offer their daily namaz, with many residents stating that the situation has disrupted regular religious activities.

Residents have alleged that repeated complaints to the civic administration have not resulted in timely action. They said the prolonged waterlogging has not only affected access to the place of worship but has also created unhygienic conditions in the surrounding locality, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases and mosquito breeding.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Nivrutti Anna Bandal visited the affected mosque on Thursday after residents sought his intervention. During his visit, he assured citizens that efforts were underway to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Bandal said he had been consistently following up with the PMC’s drainage department and had urged officials to deploy a jetting machine to clear the blocked drainage lines responsible for the sewage overflow. He stressed that the civic administration should act without further delay and ensure the accumulated water is removed immediately to restore normal access to the mosque.

Residents have reiterated their demand for urgent drainage clearance, restoration of safe access to the mosque, and long-term measures to prevent similar incidents during the monsoon. They have also appealed to the civic authorities to strengthen drainage infrastructure in the locality to avoid recurring flooding and sewage overflow during periods of heavy rainfall.
