IT parks in Satara and Kolhapur gain momentum after land transfer issues resolved; major job opportunities expected for local youth.

Pune, April 22, 2026: In a major development for western Maharashtra, the long-awaited IT park projects in Satara and Kolhapur are finally moving ahead at a faster pace after a key land transfer issue was resolved, Industries Minister Uday Samant confirmed. The update is being seen as a significant boost for local employment and regional development.

According to the minister, the state government has taken a clear decision to establish IT parks in both districts, aiming to decentralise Maharashtra’s tech growth beyond traditional hubs like Pune and Mumbai. In Kolhapur, a major breakthrough has been achieved with the transfer of around 34.36 hectares of land at Shenda Park from the agriculture department to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), paving the way for planning and infrastructure development.

For Satara, the process is also progressing, with land reservation and transfer to MIDC expected to be completed soon. Officials indicated that once the land formalities are finalised, groundwork for the IT park will begin, including planning layouts and inviting investments.

To accelerate industrial interest, the government is also planning to organise workshops for IT entrepreneurs in both districts. These sessions aim to attract companies, startups, and investors, ensuring that the proposed parks do not remain just infrastructure projects but evolve into active technology hubs.

The initiative carries strong economic significance. For years, students and skilled professionals from Satara and Kolhapur have migrated to cities like Pune, Mumbai, and Bengaluru in search of IT jobs. The upcoming parks are expected to reverse this trend by creating local employment opportunities and building a regional ecosystem for software services, back-office operations, and startups.

Experts believe the twin IT park push signals a broader policy shift, where the Maharashtra government is focusing on tier-2 cities as future growth engines. With better connectivity, available land, and a growing talent pool, districts like Satara and Kolhapur are being positioned as emerging technology destinations.

If executed on schedule, these projects could generate thousands of jobs, boost local economies, and reduce pressure on already saturated IT hubs like Hinjewadi in Pune. At the same time, they could encourage balanced regional development and strengthen Maharashtra’s position in India’s tech landscape.

With land issues resolved and planning gaining momentum, the Satara–Kolhapur IT park projects are entering a crucial phase. For local youth, this could mark the beginning of new career opportunities closer to home.
