Second FIR Registered in Pune MPSC Protest Row; Five Booked Over Drone Use Without Permission

Pune police have registered a second FIR in the MPSC protest case, booking five people for allegedly operating a drone without permission near S M Joshi Bridge.

PUNE: Vishrambaug police have registered a second case linked to the ongoing Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants’ protest in Pune, booking five people for allegedly operating a drone without permission to film the gathering near S M Joshi Bridge in Navi Peth.

The FIR, registered at 1:56 am on October 10, names photographer Digambar Bharat Khare, Youth Congress leader Shivraj More, Pramod Patil, Hrishikesh Gangurde and Akshay Kamble. The case has been registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant.

Drone Spotted Above Protest Site

According to the police complaint, the incident took place at around 7:30 pm on October 5, when police head constable Yuvraj Bharat Tele was deployed at the protest site. He allegedly noticed a drone flying above the gathering and traced its operator to an open space behind the venue.

The complaint states that Khare allegedly told police he did not have the required permission to operate the drone and was filming on the instructions of Patil, More, Gangurde and Kamble.

Police directed the operator to bring the drone down and seized a DJI drone camera valued at approximately ₹40,000, along with its remote controller valued at ₹10,000. The equipment was sealed after the seizure procedure was documented in the presence of witnesses.

According to the complaint, Khare was subsequently asked to submit documents confirming permission for the drone operation but had not provided them by the time the FIR was registered.

Police Sub-Inspector Shobha Teli is investigating the case.

Second Case Amid MPSC Protest Dispute

The drone-related FIR comes a day after Vishrambaug police registered another case against 15 people over alleged violations connected to the protest. The agitation has been continuing near S M Joshi Bridge amid demands by MPSC aspirants for greater transparency in recruitment and action over alleged irregularities.

Police have raised concerns about the continuation of the protest without valid permission and its impact on traffic and public order. Protesters, meanwhile, have continued to press their demands.

The latest case adds another legal development to the ongoing standoff between the authorities and those involved in the MPSC agitation. The allegations in the FIR remain subject to investigation.
