Pune Police bust a drug racket in Baner, arrest two brothers and seize 16 kg marijuana hidden in turmeric packets worth ₹8.7 lakh.
Pune | 20 March, 2026:In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Pune Police busted a narcotics racket in the Baner area of Pune, arresting two brothers and seizing 16 kilograms of marijuana valued at approximately ₹8.7 lakh. The operation, carried out during the early hours, highlights the growing concern over drug distribution networks operating within urban pockets of the city.
Acting on a specific tip-off, Baner police laid a trap around 1:30–2:00 AM after receiving intelligence that the suspects would arrive in the area to sell narcotics. The accused were intercepted while traveling on a motorcycle and were allegedly searching for buyers at the time of arrest.
During the initial search, police recovered around 3 kilograms of marijuana from their possession. What shocked investigators was the method used to conceal the drugs—the cannabis was hidden inside turmeric packets to avoid suspicion during transport and evade law enforcement checks.

Following the arrest, police conducted a raid at the accused’s residence, which led to the seizure of an additional 13 kilograms of marijuana along with foreign currency, suggesting possible links to a wider drug supply network. In total, 16 kilograms of cannabis were confiscated in the operation.
The accused, identified as brothers from the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, were reportedly using their motorcycle to distribute drugs across different parts of Pune. Preliminary investigations indicate that they had been employing this concealment technique for several days to avoid detection.
Police officials have stated that further investigations are underway to trace the origin of the seized narcotics and identify other individuals involved in the supply chain. Authorities are also examining whether the racket has links to larger interstate drug networks, which have been increasingly active in Pune and surrounding regions.
The incident once again highlights Pune’s emerging challenge with drug-related crimes, particularly in rapidly developing areas like Baner, Hinjewadi, and Wakad. Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance and intelligence-based operations in recent months, leading to multiple drug busts across the city. Experts believe that traffickers are adopting innovative methods, such as disguising drugs in everyday items, to bypass security checks and expand their reach.
