Dawoodi Bohra community launches ‘Beat the Heat’ drive in Pune, serving 12,000+ cold refreshments to outdoor workers amid rising temperatures.
Pune, 27 April, 2026: As Pune reels under a harsh summer with temperatures soaring close to 42°C, the Dawoodi Bohra community has stepped forward with a city-wide relief initiative aimed at helping those most affected by the heat. Under its “Beat the Heat” campaign, the community distributed over 12,000 glasses of cold refreshments to outdoor workers, commuters, and pedestrians struggling with prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures.

The drive saw active participation from 72 volunteers who set up distribution points at key high-traffic locations across the city. Areas such as Raheja Vista Chowk, Hadapsar Bridge Chowki, Jyoti Chowk, Gera Junction Chowk, and Kedari Petrol Pump Chowk witnessed the initiative in action, where daily wage workers, traffic police personnel, delivery agents, and passersby were offered immediate relief from the scorching conditions.
Organisers said the effort was focused on providing simple yet essential support to those who spend long hours outdoors and are at higher risk of dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Speaking about the initiative, community member Murtaza Aden described it as a meaningful step towards social responsibility. He noted that the collective participation of various community centres across Pune made the drive more impactful and reflected a shared commitment to public welfare.
The campaign was conducted under Project Rise, a global initiative that focuses on uplifting communities through sustainable and socially responsible activities. Similar seasonal drives are currently being carried out in several cities across India, highlighting a coordinated effort to address weather-related challenges at the grassroots level.

The initiative comes at a time when large parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, are witnessing a steady rise in temperatures, raising concerns among health experts about heat exhaustion and dehydration, especially among vulnerable groups. With climate patterns becoming increasingly unpredictable, such community-led interventions are playing a crucial role in providing immediate, on-ground relief.
While the “Beat the Heat” drive may seem like a small gesture, its impact has been significant for thousands navigating the city’s peak afternoon heat. As Pune continues to face rising temperatures, efforts like these underline the importance of collective action and community-driven support systems in times of environmental stress.
