Self-styled godman Ashok Kharat was sent to judicial custody in Nashik Road Jail after his Enforcement Directorate remand ended in a massive twenty-five crore rupee money laundering and fraud case
May 27, 2026 | Nashik: Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman currently facing severe allegations ranging from atrocities against women to massive financial deception, is returning to the Nashik Road Central Jail. This significant development comes immediately after the conclusion of his custody under the Enforcement Directorate (ED). During the latest legal proceedings, the central investigative agency informed the court that further custodial interrogation of the accused was no longer necessary for their immediate probe, prompting the judiciary to place him in standard judicial custody.
The Enforcement Directorate initially apprehended Kharat on May 19 following emerging evidence of a sophisticated money laundering operation. The agency’s rigorous preliminary investigations have uncovered highly suspicious and complex financial maneuvers. Investigative authorities suspect that illicit transactions amounting to a staggering 25 crore rupees were systematically executed using a clandestine network of bogus bank accounts. More alarmingly, these high-value financial transfers were allegedly processed entirely without the standard submission of physical deposit slips. This glaring irregularity has triggered a comprehensive multi-agency probe, with several investigative bodies now meticulously scrutinizing the intricate web of Kharat’s financial dealings to expose the full magnitude of the scam.

While the fake godman remains securely behind bars, the Sarkarwada police are reportedly preparing to formally request his custody to interrogate him regarding parallel criminal cases registered in their jurisdiction. Meanwhile, his wife and prime co-accused, Kalpana Kharat, continues to successfully evade law enforcement. She has been absconding for the past two months, actively dodging multiple police search teams. In a major legal blow to her escape efforts, the Rahata court in Ahilyanagar recently rejected her regular bail application. Anticipating imminent arrest for a separate criminal offense registered in Sinnar, Kalpana has now rushed to the Nashik Road Additional Sessions Court, filing an urgent plea for anticipatory bail as the police net steadily tightens around the entire syndicate.
